Elizabeth LaPorte is a luthier based in New York City. She provides a full range of repair and maintenance services for professional musicians and makes new instruments from her Brooklyn workshop.

Elizabeth is dedicated to the principles of fine craftsmanship and service, and is known for her ability to connect with musicians to clearly identify both their needs and the needs of their instruments. With a highly-detailed and systematic approach to each instrument-player combination, Elizabeth provides workshop services that optimize the performance and facility of each instrument, while preserving their integrity as unique objects of cultural significance.

Elizabeth makes new violins and violas, and seeks inspiration in her work from Cremonese instruments by Lorenzo Storioni, Girolamo Amati II, and Carlo Bergonzi. Musicians appreciate her instruments for their ease of play and regularly cite their tonal similarities to classic Italian instruments.

Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Macalester College and is a graduate of the Chicago School of Violin Making. She trained with Greg Sapp and Mitsugu Gomikawa in Chicago, then subsequently in the workshop of Rare Violins of New York. Her most recent position was as head of the workshop for Tarisio New York, where she worked until 2023. Elizabeth has also served on the Board of Directors for the Chicago School of Violin Making, and has visited the school as a post-graduate lecturer. She is a member of the Violin Society of America and is enthusiastic about supporting the development of new professionals in the field.
